Stu Campbell wrote “Ski with the Big Boys” while he was still at Stowe.
I had a copy of his book and studied it often. He used some of the Stowe Instructors in his illustrations and pictures.
He’d come over to Smuggs to address the Ski School there. I had him autograph my copy of Ski with the Big Boys. Stu was an interesting, informative, and knowledgable speaker.
Stu Campbell wrote the book.
My husband (also named Stu) skied with Stu Campbell at Stowe the year his book came out.

Stu wrote the best article I ever read on how to ski moguls (in Ski Magazine, around 1980’s). The skier passes the 1st mogul, thinking it’s too tall, too big or too whatever and skips it. When he/she gets to the 2nd mogul, it just doesn’t feel right. By the time he/she makes a turn, it’s the last mogul before the edge of the trail and the trees. Speed gradually picked up as each mogul was passed, and making a turn has gotten progressively more difficult. Better to pick the first mogul, slide into it in slow motion, pivot and turn on it. Beautifully written by “Professor” Campbell and greatly appreciated.
Stu also drove to Burlington around 2:00am one night after the second “celebrity” (Sonny Bono and one of the Kennedys.) died from a ski head injury. Our daughter, then an Associate Producer for CBS morning news, called him from NYC to ask him to be interviewed for the morning show.
Excellent skier, good guy, wonderful writer for skiing.

That would be my Delta Upsilon fraternity brother at Middlebury College, Stu Campbell. Gone way too soon – I miss him!
