How did Whistler get its name?
Whistler got its name form the hoary marmots that whisltled. It used to be called Alta Lake the name of the largest of 5 lakes. Whislter creek was the site of the original base of Whislter mtn. The “new” townsite, where Blackcomb and Whistler lifts come together, is actually the former site of a dump. How do i know this? i lived ther for 8 years, way too much fun.
Whistler is named for the whistling sound that the local marmots make. Near Whistler there is a pass call “Singing Pass” where the marmots whistle their great song.
