On October 29th Killington became the first ski area in the East to open for skiing and riding. Killington has always made its reputation on long seasons that start early and end late. So this week’s trivia question is: what date did Killington begin operation for the first time?

Killington opened December 13, 1958 with 2 Pomalifts on Snowdon Mountain, while construction continued on 2 other Pomalifts during the winter. Four Pomas were opperating by the end of the season: 3 on Snowdon Mountain and one in the Glades near the summit of Killington Peak. The base lodge was an old CCC hut with an outhouse beside it and a converted chicken coop served as a ticket booth.
