Roland Palmedo raised money for the single chair and was the first President. J.N. Cooke was Vice President. Lowell Thomas was an investor.

In 1939, Roland Palmedo (President of the Amateur Ski Club of NY) suggested to the Mt. Mansfield Ski Club that a fun race in the spring would be a fitting way to end the ski season. On April 30, 1939, the Club held the first Sugar Slalom!
