Richard Snelling was the VT governor who was in Shelburne Industries which Barrecrafters was a part of. Guess Barrecrafters is still in business. Or, perhaps it has been acquired by someone.
What I remember about Snelling was the he was found dead in his swimming pool.

Barre rafters made ski racks, boot trees and ski poles. They dabbled in ski importing with Maxel and Fritzmeier. If you have not heard of either brand you might deduce that the ski business was not successful for Shelburne Industries. Governor Snelling died of a heart attack while cleaning his swimming pool. My dad had just left Dick ‘s house. They were very close friends and my dad was the final person to see the governor before he died.
As noted by Pat Ostrowski, Gov. Snelling’s Shelburne Industries, producing Barrecrafters racks was our ski business governor. I believe they may have made ski poles also.
I haven’t seen the Barrecrafter name in a while, so perhaps you can tell us about its status.
I vote for Snelling also, I drove by that factory on the way to Stowe and had wondered what it was till I got one of their racks. I had one of the Barrecrafters racks on the back of my 1966 Chrysler 300 convertible and could mount the skis across the trunk lid as it was so wide. That rack never budged but it was a Bear to open the trunk with the skis on the rack.
