Jeffersonville-hi Greg , i worked it in 1974 when i got divorced & quit my State job for a yr for change of pace & then Horst Thompke from the Chez Moustache & his wife Barbara hired me to tend bar & spent the next 30 yr in Stowe behind the bar!
I can’t guarantee that there were no other “Salty Dogs” at ski areas but the one where I logged quite a few hours over quite a few years was in Jeffersonville, down the road from Smuggs’. It was built and operated by Wayne Roberts who passed away in 2023.
The Salty Dog was the bar! Located on Edwards Road in Jeffersonville – not far from Smuggs! 25 cent drafts going up 5 cents per half hour until they reached 50 cents per – we were going to school at Johnson State College at the time… that was also the era of the big April snow storm – when Smuggs stayed open until May – was tough to take final exams that year! choice betweeen taking your final or skiing!!
The infamous Salty Dog was in Jeffersonville, as previously mentioned, down the road from Smuggs. Back in the day, we got in, being girls of an upstanding local family, at 16yrs of age. My mother was always relieved that she knew we were there and surrounded by neighbors. It was just for dancing and an occasional sip of a Sloe Gin Fizz. My mother’s advice: always drink from a bottle – those glasses never get washed too well!!!
