All the hills in the Woodstock – Pomfret area are numbered. In 1934, as skiers rode the first rope tow on Gilbert’s Hill, some skiers hiked over to check out hill #6. After looking down “the face” Bunny Bertram commented that it would be suicidal to ski down Hill #6. In 1936 he opened “Suicide Six” as a ski area. There is a trail that bears his name – “Bunny’s” that is still open today. The Bunny Bertram Masters race is held every year in his memory.
