And you know you didn’t mention this in your Gore article but ski waxes containing Polytetraflouroethylene are being banned due to environmental poisoning.

Sepp started the specific Friday program for the Stowe Public schools in 1952. The goal was for every kid in this mountain town should learn to ski.

The ski school started in 1938, two years after the mountain opened.

guess Carol goes back farther than me! My kids are in their 50’s & skid with the program all thru school making it 0ver 45 yr old even though i taught them in Stowe at 2 on the Mt. I started skiing the Mt in 1948 & at 8 won a ski race against Stowe school kids who weren’t happy because i was from Waterbury where we had a ski lodge & taught by my dad who was an instructor not part of the MMSC till after that. Just a comment to let you know i follow you weekly !

Oh, sorry. Mis-read the question. Carol is correct that the School Skiing program was started by the ski club in 1951/52.

The Stowe ski school was started by Sepp Ruschp in 1938. It is reported that when Sepp first came to Stowe he looked around and asked where the mountain was. His school first started at the Toll House area. A perfect place for anyone to start skiing.

Wasn’t sure when it started, but I still have my first grade trophy from the end of season races. A sweet little silver bowl! 1962. There were end of season races for all levels! That stopped after a while, but I loved it.

Here in Fernie We have a local who is an heir to the Gore fortune, I think, I don’t know him but one of my ski buddies does. Goretex made way more money producing medical devices then outdoor wear.
